Montenegro is situated in the center of the Balkan peninsula. This rugged mountainous country has coastal access at the Adriatic Sea which brings plenty of moisture and creates an abundant winter snowfall.
The highest peak is Zla Kolata (8,314 ft / 2,534 m). Skiing and snowboarding is relatively underdeveloped in Montenegro considering the natural beauty, climate and elevation.
The larger of the two ski resorts is Kolasin 1450 situated at 4,757 ft / 1450 m. Somewhat older Durmitor national park has three ski trails cutting through some of the most breathtaking natural sites anywhere in the Balkans.
